St Albans Dentist Fully Booked? We See St Albans Patients in Hemel Hempstead

If the St Albans dentist you wanted has nothing free, you do not have to keep redialling the same number. Landmark Dental is a private practice at 157 London Road, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, and we see patients who travel from St Albans.

Most drivers get here in about 15 to 20 minutes. That range comes from published route estimates. Traffic, and which end of St Albans you leave from, moves it.

A new patient check-up is £50 on the current fee guide. The guide calls that a limited-time offer, so confirm it when you book online or call 01442 269 826.

The title is a question, and the fair answer is mixed. Some St Albans surgeries have no NHS places left. Others may still be taking patients. Ask the practice you actually want. If you still have no date, we can see you in Hemel Hempstead.

This is private care, at private fees. It does not register you as an NHS patient at a St Albans practice.

Question Short answer
Can you see someone from St Albans? Yes. The practice is in Apsley, and new private patients are welcome.

What if a tooth hurts today? A weekday emergency assessment is £70, subject to a free slot. Further treatment is extra.

Why a dentist in St Albans is so hard to book

The NHS says you may find it difficult to get a local NHS dental appointment. A practice can ask you to join a waiting list. Filling in a form at a first visit does not mean that same practice will always have NHS care for you later. That page was last reviewed on 6 February 2025: How to find an NHS dentist.

So a search for a dentist in St Albans often turns into the same few calls, then a hold message. That is frustrating. It is not proof that every door in the city is shut.

If you need NHS charges, do these in order:

  1. Search Find a dentist and contact practices yourself.
  2. Ask whether they have NHS appointments, not only private ones.
  3. If they offer a waiting list, ask how it works and what it does not promise.
  4. If you still cannot get NHS care, contact your local integrated care board. The NHS says the board manages dental services in your area and may know who has room.
  5. If the problem is urgent, use NHS 111. Do not wait on a routine list while you are in pain.

A 20-minute drive and an examination this week beats sitting on a list with a toothache. That is a private choice, and the bill is yours. If NHS fees are the point, stay on the NHS path as well.

The Maltings, and Alexander House

A lot of local searches are just the name of a surgery.

Maltings dentist in St Albans

The Maltings Dental Surgery is at 54 The Maltings shopping centre, AL1 3HL. At the time of writing, its own urgent-care page says the practice is at full NHS capacity and cannot add new patients to its NHS list.

It does offer NHS urgent appointments for pain, swelling, infection, trauma and similar problems, subject to clinical priority and capacity. Read the limit before you book one. An urgent visit treats the immediate problem. It does not add you to the NHS list, and it does not promise check-ups, fillings or hygiene afterwards.

If further work is needed and an NHS appointment is not available, the Maltings says its team can discuss private options, with no obligation to go ahead. Patients who still want an NHS dentist are told to contact NHS 111.

Their published phone number is 01727 837376.

Alexander House dentist in St Albans

Alexander House is the other name people type in. The practice is at 109 St Peter’s Street, AL1 3ET. Its website invites new patients to call 01727 869471, and it says its dentists can provide NHS care.

Availability changes. Only that practice can tell you if it can see you. If Alexander House is the surgery you want, ring them. If you still have no appointment, and private fees are acceptable, come to Apsley. An appointment with us is not an NHS registration at Alexander House, and it is not a place on the Maltings list.

Still no appointment in St Albans? Book a private new patient exam in Apsley, or send an enquiry and the team will call you back.

What people mean by the best dentist in St Albans

“Best dentist in St Albans” is rarely a league table. People type it when they want someone who will see them, explain the plan, write the fee down, and leave time for questions.

We are in Hemel Hempstead. Judge us the way you would judge a surgery on St Peter’s Street.

Check these before you trust any practice, including this one:

  • A GDC number you can look up on the GDC register
  • A written price, not a verbal guess
  • A real appointment, not a promise to “see what we can do”
  • Whether the clinic says it is regulated by the Care Quality Commission
  • Whether you understood the plan before anyone picked up a drill

Our principals are Dr Amit Duggal (GDC 79708) and Dr Raj Mahendran (GDC 79866). The practice says they have more than 40 years of combined clinical experience. Dr Duggal is described on our implant pages as a specialist prosthodontist. Every dentist here is GDC-registered, and the practice states that the clinic is regulated by the CQC.

About the practice is the short version of a visit: you are treated as an individual, and the appointment is there for questions.

If you are anxious, say so when you book. The nervous patients page sets out calmer options, including IV sedation where it is suitable. A sedation consultation is £60 on the fee guide. Intravenous sedation is listed from £350 an hour.

If you need an emergency dentist and you live in St Albans

A lost crown is annoying. Swelling, a night of no sleep, or a knocked-out tooth is urgent.

We offer emergency dentist appointments for severe toothache, swelling, infection, broken teeth and dental trauma. Slots depend on the diary. The fee guide lists the visit at £70, and that includes a prescription if one is indicated.

It is an assessment of the urgent problem, not a full new-patient exam. Any further treatment is a separate cost, explained before it starts. The booking page describes the visit as 30 minutes.

We can only see you in opening hours:

  • Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm
  • Friday, 8.30am to 2pm
  • Saturday and Sunday, closed

Use this as a quick sort, then still use 111 if you are unsure.

What is happening What to do
Toothache you can control, and you want a plan Book a new patient check-up, or call us on a weekday.
Severe pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a knock to the teeth, and we have a weekday slot Book or call for the £70 emergency assessment.
No slot here, or it is the weekend Contact NHS 111.
Trouble breathing, bleeding that will not stop, or a serious face or jaw injury Call 999 or go to A&E. Do not drive yourself.

The NHS urgent dental page, reviewed on 14 May 2025, says to ask for an urgent appointment or contact 111 if you have a knocked-out tooth or other injury, severe pain that stops sleep or daily life and is not helped by painkillers, pain that eases with painkillers but will not go, swelling or a mouth patch that is growing or lingering, an ulcer that has lasted two weeks or got worse, bleeding or severe pain after an extraction, or a broken or loose filling, denture, crown, bridge or veneer.

You should be offered urgent dental treatment within 24 hours or within 7 days, depending on the symptoms. A knocked-out adult tooth should be seen within an hour, or as soon as possible.

Call 999 or go to A&E for serious injury to the face or jaw, heavy mouth bleeding that will not stop, severe swelling of the mouth, lips, throat or neck with difficulty breathing or opening one or both eyes, or a head or face injury that caused unconsciousness, vomiting or double vision.

A pharmacist can advise on pain relief while you wait, including paracetamol or ibuprofen, unless those medicines are unsuitable for you.

What the first visits cost

Prices below are from the fee guide. Confirm the figure when you book. Offers change.

Visit Fee on the current guide
New patient check-up £50 (limited-time offer)
Routine examination £50
Emergency appointment £70 (prescription included if indicated)
Hygiene, 30 minutes £83
Dental implant, including the crown from £2,400 (bone graft not included)
Invisalign Express, one arch from £2,600

On our site, a first appointment is a full examination, an oral health assessment, time to talk through what you want, digital images if they are required, and a treatment recommendation with the cost before anything starts. Small X-rays are listed at £10, a panoramic X-ray at £60, and a 3D CBCT scan at £160, when they are needed. Ask whether any of those sit inside the £50 visit or beside it.

Implant treatment starts with an assessment. It is not the right fix for every gap. An implant consultation is £50 on the same limited-time offer. Bone grafting and sinus lifts are listed from £500 each. The dental implants near Kings Langley page describes a £2,400 package that includes the CBCT scan, placement and crown, with grafting charged extra.

Invisalign costs rise with the case. An orthodontic consultation is £90. The booking page also shows a £50 Invisalign consultation with a general dentist, taken off the fee if you go ahead. Pick the visit that matches what you want, and check which price applies.

A hygiene visit is £83 for 30 minutes, and you can book it without a dentist referral. Direct-access hygiene, if you are not a registered patient, is £150 for 45 minutes. Premium hygiene with Airflow is £140 for 45 minutes.

Children’s examinations are £20 (ages 0 to 6), £30 (ages 7 to 12) and £45 (ages 13 to 18).

Selected treatments can be spread with finance. The practice accepts many dental plans, including Bupa and Aviva. Reception can talk through cover before you attend. Routine care can also sit on the Landmark Dental Care Plan, run with DPAS, which is built around examinations and hygiene rather than a one-off repair.

Want the current price before you travel? Check the fee guide, or ask reception to confirm it on the phone.

Getting from St Albans to Apsley

The address is 157 London Road, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP3 9SQ. The practice says there is on-site parking.

From Apsley station the walk is about 10 minutes. Turn left towards Hemel Hempstead, pass the Sainsbury’s roundabout and the Dunelm lights, and the practice is on the left where the pavement rises. Directions from the M25 (junction 20) and the M1 (junction 8) are on the contact page.

Email is info@landmarkdental.co.uk.

Booking takes three steps:

  1. Choose the visit. New patient exam, routine check-up, general dentistry, hygiene, or an urgent assessment.
  2. Pick a time. Use the online booking system. It is open all day. A Saturday booking is for a weekday slot. It is not a weekend clinic.
  3. Or send a question. Use the contact page and reception will call you back.

Bring a list of medicines, and the name of any St Albans practice you have already tried.

What to do this week

If something hurts and we have a weekday slot, call or book the £70 assessment. If you simply need a dentist and you accept private fees, book the check-up and write down what has been bothering you.

If you need NHS charges, keep looking: Find a dentist, waiting lists, then your local integrated care board. Use NHS 111 when it becomes urgent.

Seeing us does not put you on an NHS list in St Albans. It does get you a dentist who can examine you, quote the work, and tell you what can wait.
